Urs Fischer with Amy Adler
"Cappillon"
Urs just does it for the girls
21 September 5 November 2000
Swiss artist Urs Fischer presents a new series of works
at the Delfina Project Space this Autumn, the first London show since
his ICA exhibition. Amy Adler, a fellow resident during Urs Fischers
residency at the Delfina Studio Programme, has been invited by the artist
to include a new piece, Girl Next Door, as an integral part
of this installation.
Urs Fischers work is characterised by an open and fluid approach
to materials and a disregard for practical limitations. The works are
a natural extension of Urs Fischers lifestyle and studio activities
with the inherent implications of romanticism and idealism. The detritus
and subliminal experiences of everyday life are allowed to flood freely
into the work and remain unrefined.
A profusion of images from Urs Fischers ongoing series of drawings
are presented hanging from a tree-like structure in the centre of the
space. The drawings, supercharged by Fischers distinctive graphic
style, a hybrid vocabulary borrowed from such non-art sources as graffiti
and tattoo art, offer a fragmentary insight into the themes and concerns
at play in other exhibited works fragility and brutality, beauty
and ugliness, banality and complexity, humour and tragedy.
