Introduction The Trust's principal activity is the provision of free studio space for visual artists. It is housed in a renovated factory close to London Bridge, a central location with good rail and tube links. The building has been developed to form thirty artists' studios on four floors, with on-site accommodation for artists from abroad. Artists usually resident in Britain receive a studio space for two years, but no accommodation. Artists from abroad receive both a studio space and accommodation for nine months (October - June each year). Facilities Studio sizes vary depending on the nature of each artist's work, smaller studios being approximately 325 square feet. There are common kitchen areas but no studio equipment is provided. The studios have good natural light, good access and security. Communal facilities include a video editing suite (Adobe Premiere), workshop facilities and access to office equipment (photocopiers, fax, PCs and a wireless network for internet access). |

A restaurant on the ground floor of the building, which is open to the public, provides a subsidised weekday lunch for resident artists. The accommodation for artists from abroad consists of a private room, with shared bathroom, kitchen and sitting room. Please note that the Trust does not provide stipends
or grants, and does not provide for everyday costs (such as food, travel
expenses or materials). Selection The Delfina Studio Trust is governed by a Board of Trustees which, with the help and advice of a panel which includes resident artists, selects from an open submissions procedure. Artists will only be considered if they have been out of full-time education for at least two years. MA-level graduates will be accepted if they have spent at least two years out of education before taking a higher degree. Application Procedure Applications should be mailed between 1st and 31st January each year for artists from abroad, and during the same period every other year for British artists (next: January 2008). Artists should send eight slides or printouts of recent work and/or VHS/DVDs (for works that last more than 5 minutes it is recommended that short extracts be submitted for viewing), a biography, and a self-addressed envelope with return postage (International Mail Coupons are available worldwide – local stamps cannot be used, unless from the UK). Further information in the form of statements or photocopied press is welcome but not necessary. Artists will be notified of the selection committee's decision, and materials returned, by mid-March. The Trust does not accept responsibility for loss or damage of applications, and will not accept applications unless accompanied by return postage and a suitable envelope or package. All applications must come via standard or registered post. Federal Express and other carriers are not accepted. Please do not send applications outside of the application period. There is no formal application form and please read
further notes
on the application procedure. |
